Sugar Kelp : Saccorhiza Polyschides. or Saccharina Latissima.
Sugar Kelp - is so called because it forms a sugar like coating on its surface when dried. This is a number of species of thin leaf Laminaria. We now supply Furbellows (Bulbous Laminaria species Saccorhiza Polyschide) instead of Saccharina Latissima as the Iodine content is substantially lower in young bulbous laminaria whilst the culinary and other nutrition are very similar.

Sugar Kelp - also known as Kombu Royale, is a delicate, mild flavoured sea vegetable which can be eaten raw, or added to rice, soups and stews, or used to make Sushi.

Can be eaten straight from the pack.Either cook for 15 mins as a side dish, use to make soup, or flash fry till crisp for a tasty snack.

Potato Pancakes with Sugar Kelp

Take 1lb (450g) cooked mashed potato, add 2 desert spoons (25g) of plain flour, and 1/4oz (7g) of finely chopped dulse, mix together, split into portions, and roll in golden breadcrumbs. Shallow or deep fry in olive oil. Add pepper to taste and serve.

Tasty Seaweed Soup

Take 1 pint of fresh cold springwater, and add 1 desert spoon of Marigold reduced salt bullion, finely chop and throw in ΒΌ oz (7g) each of Sugar Kelp, Wakame, and mixed Sea Salad, heat gently to near boil and simmer for 7-10 minutes. Serve with crutons, toast, or fresh buttered bread.
